Looking For a New Hairstyle for Women over 50? Try a New Hair Colour Too.

Being in my Fabulous 50s one of the things I've noticed is that my greying hair is getting inevitably drab, dull and boring.

Whilst it's just nature taking its course, I'm not ready yet to let my hair go silver although there are many women with grey hair in their 50's and they look absolutely amazing.

On my search for the best hair colour for women over 50, I thought I may like a change of style too. I had almost waist length hair and to be honest it was a boring hair style for a 50+ year old and I fancied a change to something more up to date.

To this end I found my self browsing through a sea of youthful hairstyles over 50, pixie cuts for older women, short hairstyles for over 50 with glasses as well as mid length hairstyles for over 50s. The list was long and included even more. I eventually decided on my new hairstyle for a 50+ woman and the colour soon followed.

I am, or rather was, a natural red head and in spite of many "gingers" being bullied, I never felt as though it was the case with me and I loved my red hair colour. If anyone ever said anything bad, I knew it was jealousy.

Over the last few years I have tried a few different red hair colours. I used commercial dyes or professional dyes bought on Amazon but they weren't quite what I wanted.  A friend recommended henna and it took me a year to decide to try it.

I bought a box of Egyptian red henna and decided to go for it. I had hennaed my hair when I was younger to gloss my hair. As my hair was already red the effect was very strong and I did get some lovely compliments but it wasn't quite the shade I wanted. I remembered that I hadn't liked the smell of the henna very much so I wasn't looking forward to trying.

You can see what happened in the video above! I was delighted with the result which went wonderfully with my choice of hair do from the bobs for over 50s search, although I do think I styled it quite well!

I would recommend henna to women who don't want to use chemicals. It is easy to apply, doesn't smell bad as I'd thought and you can keep it on for 20 to 60 minutes without worrying that your hair will fall out.

It is though a bit messy to apply, in that it dries as you have it on and I found blobs of it on the floor. It didn't stain though as the floor was washable, but be careful if you have carpets.

All in all, I am delighted with the results. I now retouch my roots every few weeks and do a full head colour if it's all looking drab.

Go ahead and give it a try, give yourself a stunning new look over 50.
