Vintage French Travel Poster, Villers sur Mer en Normandie - Roger Broders - 1920
"Villers-sur-Mer en Normandie" — Roger Broders, 1920

This early work by Roger Broders, dating from 1920, promotes the Normandy coastal town of Villers-sur-Mer. One of Broders' earlier commissions, it reflects the flourishing popularity of Norman seaside resorts in the post-First World War era, when French domestic tourism experienced a significant boom.

Villers-sur-Mer, situated on the Côte Fleurie in Normandy, was prized for its long sandy beaches, elegant villas, and bracing sea air. Broders' poster captures the refined leisure of the Belle Époque seaside tradition, with elegant holidaymakers enjoying the promenade and beach — a scene that still defines the Norman coast today. This early piece already displays the clean composition and confident use of colour that would define Broders' later, celebrated PLM posters.
