Valle d'Aosta — Vintage Italian Alpine Travel Poster by Gino Boccasile (1946–47)
Few vintage travel posters capture the romance of mountain adventure quite like this iconic Valle d'Aosta print. Created by celebrated Italian illustrator Gino Boccasile in the years immediately following World War II, it depicts a man and woman striding confidently through the Italian Alps — ice picks raised, the snow-capped peaks of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn soaring behind them.
The Valle d'Aosta is Italy's smallest and most mountainous region — a dramatic landscape of ancient Roman ruins, medieval castles and six world class ski resorts including Cervinia, Courmayeur and La Thuile, all nestled beneath three of Europe's highest peaks.
This poster has been painstakingly and carefully digitally restored from the original — the original bold colours brought back to full life — producing a print that looks as fresh and vibrant as the day Boccasile first put brush to paper but it manages to retain the vintage character of the piece.
